Repairs to Willow Avenue Life Bridge Require 30 day River Traffic Closure
GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Wednesday, November 9, 2016) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be making repairs to the Willow Avenue Lift Bridge over the Old Cuyahoga River Channel in the city of Cleveland, Ohio.
The bridge will be in the permanent down position from January 20 to February 17, 2017 and the river channel will be closed to large vessels during this time. Small boats will have limited access under the bridge during construction. Vehicular traffic over the bridge will be maintained during construction. The work has been scheduled to be completed while there is minimal vessel traffic in the river channel.
ODOT has coordinated the project with the US. Coast Guard and they have approved the bridge to remain in the down position from January 20 to February 17, 2017. Coordination with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers is continuing. ODOT is not required to purchase any new right-of-way for this work.
Due to the closure of the Old Cuyahoga River Channel for a month, ODOT is seeking public input regarding the effects. Comments may be directed to Mr. Mark Carpenter, District Environmental Engineer, 5500 Transportation Blvd., Garfield Heights, OH, 44125, or 216-584-2089 or Mark.Carpenter@dot.ohio.gov. Comments will be received until November 28, 2016.
