Resurfacing to Begin Wednesday on I-271 Express Lanes

Garfield Heights, Ohio (Tuesday, April 20, 2010)Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Kokosing Construction Company  will begin a project to resurface the I-271 Express Lanes between Emery Road and U.S. 322 (Mayfield Road).  

Crews will begin setting the construction zone in the northbound direction on Wednesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 22 starting at Emery Road.  Traffic will be reduced to one lane between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night.

For three consecutive weekends – beginning Friday, April 23 – the I-271 northbound Express Lanes will be closed between Emery Road and U.S. 322 (Mayfield Road) beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and will remain closed through 6 a.m. Monday morning for milling operations.  Northbound traffic will be detoured onto the local lanes.  The I-271 southbound Express Lanes will remain open.  Additional weekend closures of the I-271 Express Lanes are expected.  Details will be forthcoming. 

After the milling operation is complete, crews will begin resurfacing the I-271 northbound Express Lanes.  Traffic will be reduced to one lane during this time.  This work will take place nightly, Monday through Friday, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Once the northbound resurfacing is complete, crews will begin working in the southbound Express Lanes.   

The entire project is scheduled to be complete in October 2010.
