State Route 2/Main Avenue Bridge Maintenance
*UPDATED* Monday, July 16, 2018 - Phase I is complete, work is currently taking place in Phase 2 with Phase 3 to begin westbound Friday, July 20.
GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Monday, April 2, 2018) - Maintenance on the State Route 2/Main Avenue Bridge will
require a single lane closure in both directions between W. 28th
Street and First Energy Stadium starting in April through fall 2018.
On Monday, April 16, crews began the first of three, six week phases of work to perform maintenance on the SR 2/Main Avenue Bridge.
*NEW* On Thursday, July 19, crews will close all lanes of SR 2/Main Ave. Bridge westbound at W. 3rd Street at 7 p.m. through 7 a.m. Friday, July 20 in order to perform traffic shift operations. SR 2 westbound motorists will be detoured via W. 3rd St. to Summit Ave to reenter SR 2 west. In addition, the Lakeside Ave. entrance ramp to SR 2 west will close during this time. Motorists will be detoured via W. 9th St. to Detroit-Superior Ave. to W. 25th St. to SR 2 west. The closure is necessary to implement the phase 3 traffic pattern for westbound traffic.
When SR 2 westbound reopens at 7 a.m. on Friday, July 20, the left lane will be closed on SR 2/Main Ave. Bridge westbound between First Energy Stadium and West 28th Street through early-September. No daily lane ramp closures will be implemented during this phase.
*NEW* Thursday, July 19 thru Monday, July 23, crews will close W. 28th Street northbound under the Main Avenue Bridge for overhead bridge painting operations. Southbound traffic ONLY will permitted between Washington Ave. and Detroit Ave. Local traffic will be detoured via Franklin Ave., W. 25th Street to Washington Ave. Motorists wanting to access SR 2 east can use W. 45th St.
*NEW* Tuesday, July 24 - Saturday, July 28, crews will close W. 28th Street southbound under the Main Avenue Bridge for bridge painting operations. Northbound traffic ONLY will be permitted between Detroit Rd. and Washington Ave. Local Traffic will be detoured via Washington Ave., W. 25th St. to Franklin Blvd. SR 2 westbound motorists exiting at W. 28th Street will NOT be permitted to turn left onto W. 28th St.
Phase 2(through approximately late-July):
Work on SR 2 west is now taking place in the center
lane of the three-lane section on the bridge. The two-lane section between
approximately E. 9th St. and Lakeside Ave will continue to have a
right lane closure.
During this phase, the left (inside) lane will remain open at all times. Work
will take place Monday thru Saturday through late-July from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. and during that time
the following closures will be implemented:
In addition, SR 2 west exit ramp to W. 28th St. will only be accessible from the left lane.
Work on SR 2 east is now taking place in the center lane of the three-lane section on the bridge. The two-lane section between
approximately Lakeside Ave. and E. 9th St. will continue to have a
right lane closure.
During this phase, the left (inside) lane will remain open at all times, but
will have no access to Lakeside Avenue and the right (outside) lane - when open - will be an exit only lane to Lakeside Avenue.
Work will take place Monday thru
Saturday through late-July from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and during that time the following closures
will be implemented:
In addition, West 28th Street
entrance ramp to SR 2 eastbound will be closed daily Monday through Saturday
from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Detour via West 45th Street to access
SR 2 east.
Phase 3 (approximately late-July through early-September):
Left lane closed on SR 2 east and westbound
between West 28th Street and First Energy Stadium. During the first three weeks of this phase, the
West 28th Street entrance ramp to SR 2 eastbound will be closed. Motorists will be detoured via West 45th
Street to access SR 2 east.
All work is weather permitting
and dates may change. Updates will be sent out ahead of each phase change.
