State Route 174 Bridge to Close beginning May 26
Gates Mills Village
Garfield Heights (May 20, 2009, 2:47 PM) – On Tuesday, May 26, 2009 crews will begin a project to rehabilitate the State Route 174 (Chagrin River Road) bridge over the Chagrin River in the Village of Gates Mills.
Chagrin River Road will be closed completely between Wilson Mills Road and Brigham Road for approximately 45 days or until approximately July 11, 2009.
This project is expected to add minimal traffic along the already established Mayfield Road/I-271 detour to State Route 91 (SOM Center Road) and Wilson Mills Road. The timing of this project allows ODOT, in coordination with the Village of Gates Mills and City of Mayfield Heights, to complete all major construction projects in the vicinity (including the Mayfield Road/I-271 reconstruction, Mayfield Road bridge over the Chagrin River and Chagrin River Road bridge just north of Old Mill Road) during the 2009 construction season.
Measures are in place to reward the contractor for completing the project up to 10 days early and fines will be imposed if the bridge remains closed longer than 45 days.
The closure is necessary as crews work to rehabilitate the bridge by completing a bridge deck replacement and various substructure repairs. Provisions have been made for residents within the closure limits to allow access to and from their properties. All other traffic will be detoured via Wilson Mills Road, SOM Center Road (State Route 91), Mayfield Road (U.S. 322) and Chagrin River Road.
At the completion of the closure on approximately July 11, 2009, the road will be re-opened to traffic. Please be advised that construction will continue with the road opened after July 11, 2009. The entire project is expected to be complete on or around October 15, 2009.
