State Route 237 (Front Street) Closure to Take Place Monday, June 8
Access to southbound Front Street no longer maintained from First Ave./Lou Groza Blvd.

Garfield Heights (June 4, 2009, 3:34 PM) Beginning Monday, June 8, 2009 crews will close State Route 237 (Front Street) between Second Avenue and a point between the CSX and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks.  Access to southbound Front Street will no longer be maintained from First Avenue/Lou Groza Boulevard.  Motorists will be detoured via Bagley Road and N. Rocky River Drive. (*Please note: Heavy truck traffic will be detoured via Engle Road.)

The Ohio Department of Transportation, City of Berea and contractor, The Great Lakes Construction Company, have proposed an accelerated schedule that would see the completion of the project nearly nine (9) months earlier than originally anticipated.  This new, accelerated schedule will see work on the north end of the project running concurrently with previously proposed work on the south end during the 2009 construction season.

Underground work has begun on the north end of Front Street between Emerson and N. Rocky River Drive and will be followed by roadway widening and pavement work.

Access to businesses north of the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks remains from N. Rocky River Drive only.

Front Street will remain closed until approximately late October 2010 as crews work to construct a grade separation to carry Front Street traffic over the CSX and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks and an access road.

Emerson Avenue is closed between Front Street and N. Rocky River Drive in order to install new pavement.  Emerson is expected to remain closed through the duration of the project.

Depot Street remains closed between Columbus Street and Front Street as crews work to realign the Depot Street intersection with Lou Groza Boulevard.  Access to Depot Street is from Bagley Road via N. Rocky River Drive only.  Work to realign Lou Groza Boulevard and Depot Street is expected to be complete by approximately mid-July.  Upon completion, the new intersection will reopen to east/west traffic.

Access to driveways will be maintained throughout the project however access points will vary as construction progresses. For up-to-date project information visit www.BuckeyeTraffic.org.
