W. 14th St. ramp to I-90 eastbound Innerbelt Bridge closed
May 23, 2008, Garfield Heights, OH… The W. 14th St. entrance ramp to I-90 eastbound is closed as engineers perform detailed inspection of the ramp.
The ramp will remain closed until further notice as inspection continues.
“This closure is a precautionary measure, however we at ODOT put safety first,” said ODOT District 12 Deputy Director Bonita Teeuwen, P.E. “Interstate 90 is a vital link to Downtown Cleveland and we would like to ensure the viability of that route in the future.”
ODOT announced in December that recent inspections have revealed that the nearly 50-year-old Innerbelt Bridge is aging faster than predicted. To ensure full and reliable use of the Innerbelt Bridge into the foreseeable future, the complete rehabilitation of the structure has been scheduled with work beneath the bridge tentatively set to begin during the spring of 2010.
ODOT inspectors and consultants will perform detailed inspections of the ramp and review calculations to ensure the safety of the ramp.
Motorists may detour west via Abbey Ave., on to W. 20th Street north, east over the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge, north on E. 18th St. and east on Prospect Ave. to I-90 eastbound.
The ramp services about 5700 vehicles per day.
