Weekend Work to Impact Motorists Headed Downtown from the South
Portions of I-71 & I-77 to close this weekend
GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Tuesday, October 13, 2015) – This weekend, crews on behalf of the Ohio Department of Transportation will close portions of both I-71 and I-77 approaching Downtown Cleveland. Motorists from the south should use SR 176 (the Jennings Freeway) north to I-490 east to I-77 north to reach Downtown Cleveland. Both roadways will reopen to allow traffic to enter and exit during Sunday’s Browns game.
“We’re wrapping up many projects for the winter months,” said ODOT spokesperson Jocelynn Clemings. “There’s a tremendous amount of activity happening around the city and we’ve coordinated our workplan to be least impactful to those who visit Downtown.”
Work on I-77 will help to return the roadway to its pre-construction configuration in the area just north of I-480. On I-71, crews will work to resurface the bridge that carries I-71 over the Jennings Freeway near the Metro Curve (approaching the Innerbelt). Additional weekend closures will be necessary for both projects. Details will be forthcoming.
