of June 28: Full I-77 Closure Between I-480 and I-490
I-77 north and southbound will close between I-480 and I-490
beginning Friday, June 28 at 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, July 1 for bridge
beam erection work on Harvard Avenue over I-77 and many other operations.
Motorists will be directed to State Route 176 as an alternate route. Limited
local access will be maintained within the I-77 closure.
Additionally, the Harvard
Avenue entrance ramp to I-77 south will be closed during this time.
Motorists will be detoured via E. 49th St. to Grant Ave. to I-77
Other operations during this weekend closure include:
work at I-77 over I-490, SR 21 and Broadway Avenue over I-77
basin cleaning between I-480 and Grant Avenue
repairs on I-77 north ramp to I-490 west
work along I-77
sweeping on I-77
work is funded by the motor vehicle fuel tax. Without the additional funding
provided by the transportation budget that goes into effect on July 1, funding
maintenance work like this would have been difficult. There would have been no
money for ‘major new’ projects. We were nearly at our constitutional borrowing
limit for certain funds. Inflation had cut the purchasing power of a dollar
nearly in half over the last fifteen years.
ODOT takes seriously the trust
Ohioans put in the Department to spend their tax dollars wisely. Our promise to all who pay this highway user fee, is that we, as an
agency, will continue to pursue cost-savings and efficiencies. We will change
the way we operate and better-utilize technology. Director Marchbanks has
pledged to find an additional $100 million in savings over the next four years.
