Work Zone Safety Reminder from ODOT and Laborers Local 860
Look up, Hang up, Slow up
GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Friday, February 17, 2012) – Laborers Local 860 and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) want to remind motorists to Look up, Hang up and Slow up when entering highway work zones.
Road construction and maintenance activities often bring cones, barrels, flashing lights, lanes closures, neon-colored vests and many construction workers to area roadways. With warmer-than-normal temperatures, that means road crews will be out in full-force patching potholes, fixing guardrail and performing other maintenance and construction activities.
When entering work zones, motorists are reminded to:
· Look up. Keep your eyes on the road so you know what is coming ahead.
· Hang up. Put down your cell phone and keep your full attention on the roadway.

These safety reminders come as sentencing is schedule next week for the truck driver who struck and killed a construction worker – a 15-year Local 860 member – on I-77 in Brecksville on November 10, 2011.
