Mission Statement
Our Mission is to ensure a safe and efficient transportation system by developing engineering policies, standards, and guidelines, providing technical assistance and advancing state of the art engineering practices.
We accomplish our mission by assisting offices within Central Office and the Districts by acting as a consultant, by aiding in the review, design and operation of Ohio's transportation system.
We are dedicated to the betterment of Ohio's public transportation system with regard to quality and service by working with all public agencies and private companies engaged in transportation in a cooperative and professional manner. |
Administration
Oversee Office Functions. Coordinate and implement policy and procedure. |
Access Management
Permit review for limited access facilities. Coordinate Access Management, Variances, Appeals, Traffic Impact Studies, Basic Access Management Training. Review and approve limited access permits. |
Geometrics
Provide Geometric reviews (Stage 1, 2 and 3) of major projects and process requests for Design Exceptions. Q.A.R. Reviews including Design Exception process, 3R Safety Studies, District Geometric Review. Provide Geometric Review training, technical assistance, Value Engineering Studies, Court of Claims, support for L&D Manual Volume 1, design support for Super Team. AASHTO and TRB Committees. |
Roadway Standards
The Standards Section main responsibility is for the development of Roadside Safety guidelines, primarily through the publication of the Location and Design Manual, Volume 1, and Roadway Standard Construction Drawings. |
Studies
Perform and review Interchange Justification Studies and capacity studies. Review developer impact studies. Review and approve access variances. Assist in major project scope development. Interchange Modification Studies, support for L&D Manual Volume 1, Design Support for Super Team. Training for Interchange Justification Studies Academy. Analyze unconventional intersections (CFI's, Roundabouts, etc.) IJS/IMS Manual - Updated October 2009 - Includes FAQ section. |
