The Ridgemont FFA built a distracted driving event around our simulator. There were a total of six activity stations, each of which highlighted an aspect of distracted or impaired driving. Throughout the day, kids in the high school and junior high came into the gym and took part in the activities. Kirk Slusher, DD, spoke to each group about the priviledge of driving, not the right. Nationwide insurance reps. were there as well.

Kirk Slusher, DD, and Lt. Brant Zemelka with the OSP served as spokespersons for the intersection safety event held on SR 309 (Elida Road) at the intersection of Cable and Elida. The corridor is in front of the Lima Mall and received a safety upgrade this construction season to reduce accidents. The Lima News, WLIO TV-35 and WIMA Radio were in attendance.

We were observing motorists making improper movements at U-turn locations on the newly-renovated SR309 (Elida Road) corridor. The corridor recently under went a safety upgrade where a raised curb median was installed along with U-turns, both of which are new to the area. We provided a graphic to the paper which displayed the proper way to make the U-turn. They they called for a story to accompany the graphic (see attachment).

After contacting school officials and setting up a date for the simulator. We set up the distracted driving simulator during the school day. On November 11, over 125 students used the simulator and over 400 watched the safety movies at the end of the simulator as well numerous distracted driving tip cards were handed out.
