    TRAC Approves Transportation Funds List

Columbus   Following a public comment period that drew more than 1, 200 citizen comments, the Transportation Review Advisory Council today gave final approval to 65 transportation projects worth about $1.5 billion.

The projects are to be planned and built over the four years beginning July 1. The nine member panel which oversees funding of major new transportation projects approved an almost identical list in draft form last December. The comment period ended April 15.

TRAC Chairman Gordon Proctor praised fellow panel members

for approving a program that will eventually ease congestion by expanding roadway capacity in all quarters of the state. "TRAC members have served well and been careful watchers of the publics dollars," he said.

A detailed listing of the funded projects can be viewed on ODOTs website at www.dot.state.oh.us/TRAC.

The panel will soon begin judging projects to be built in 2005 and included in a project list covering the years 2002 to 2005. Public hearings will conducted in summer and fall, with a draft list out next December.

With an 8-0 vote, the panel agreed to spend $79.6 million to fund construction of Athens to Darwin US 33, with construction to begin later this calendar year. Panel member Kenner Bush abstained from voting because of legal agreement worked out after project opponents sued in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
