Comment Period for Rail Projects Announced

Columbus A subcommittee of the Transportation Review Advisory Council has announced that rail grade separation projects approved in draft form Thursday can be commented on until April 16.

Four members of the nine-member TRAC panel approved for funding four projects as part of Gov. Bob Tafts 10-year, $200 million initiative to free Ohio communities from vehicle congestion caused by trains.

The public and public officials have 60 days to comment on the projects.

The projects, originally announced Feb. 8, and costing more than $44 million, are in Lucas, Hamilton, Butler and Lake counties. Twenty-seven more projects are to get further development for possible construction later.

The TRAC subcommittee received 74 applications worth $450 million for funding. Nearly 60 percent of the funds will be provided by ODOT, with communities, railroads and the Ohio Legislature as well as the federal government to contribute.
