ODOT and OSU Partner to Open Transportation Conference

COLUMBUS The 2002 Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference (OTEC), co-sponsored by The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and The Ohio State University, opened today at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

One of the largest transportation conferences in the nation, the annual two-day event, brings together academia, government and the transportation industry to discuss the latest in transportation technologies and trends.

According to ODOT Director Gordon Proctor, OTEC 2002 will focus on how technology has changed transportation. "Electric cars, global positioning satellites and intelligent transportation systems influence not only how we move people and products, but how we will fund transportation projects in the future. This conference will look at new technology in the transportation industry and what it will mean to the future of Ohio," Proctor said.

The event features technical sessions, an exhibitors expo, and several guest addresses including "The Changing Face of Transportation" by Rodney Slater, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation, and "Transportation in Ohio: Dealing With Forces of Change" by Alan Pisarski, author of "Commuting in America."

Further information regarding the conference, sessions and speakers can be found on the OTEC Web site, at
