THANKSGIVING DAY TRAVEL
BEGINS
COLUMBUS (November 20, 2007) This Thanksgiving
holiday, state highways will see an increase in traffic starting
Wednesday evening, and the Ohio Department of Transportation is
reminding motorists to take extra caution. Last year, ODOTs traffic
analysis showed a 40 percent increase in traffic on the states rural
highways the Wednesday before the holiday. Over the five-day
Thanksgiving period in 2006, there were 3,139 crashes on Ohios
highways, resulting in 22 deaths.
Holiday drivers are often navigating routes they dont normally
travel. With many of the states major construction projects changing
traffic patterns, there is an increased need to slow down, pay
attention to all signs and work zones, and plan ahead. Motorists can
get up-to-date construction and road condition information any time at
www.BuckeyeTraffic.org.
