ODOT July 4th Holiday Traffic Advisory
(Tuesday, July 03, 2012) – As millions of Ohioans travel to visit family and friends this July 4th, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) says Know Before You Go and visit www.BuckeyeTraffic.org
to get to your Fourth of July celebration safely and on-time.
Below is a list of major road closures and restrictions around the state due to construction. Motorists should also be aware that there are currently 14 roads and 4 rest areas closed due to this week’s severe storms.
THE CLOSED REST AREAS INCLUDE:
Allen County U.S. 30 both eastbound (EB) and westbound (WB)
Delaware County I-71 both NB and SB
Hancock County I-75 both NB and SB
Van Wert U.S. 30 both EB and WB

Interstates 71/670, Franklin County
Two lanes maintained on I-71 and I-670 throughout the construction zone.
Access to the airport is not impacted. The reduced speed of 45-mph is strictly enforced. Any interstate closures are during overnights and weekends and prior notification is given.
State Route 158, Licking County
This interchange improvement project includes widening the existing SR 158 Bridge over I-70 replacing/widening the SR 158 entrance/exit ramps, and widening SR 158 in the interchange vicinity. The SR 158 Bridge over I-70 is limited to southbound traffic only. Motorists traveling northbound on SR 158 should be aware there is no access to westbound I-70. A detour is posted, and motorists should expect delays in work zone areas.
Interstate 270, Franklin County
Three lanes will be maintained in each direction between Roberts Rd. and Broad St.
Two lanes will be maintained in each direction between Broad St. and U.S. 62. All ramps will remain open. The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 55 mph so drivers should allow for extra time for their commute and remain alert since this is a seven mile construction zone.
State Route 57 Ramp to I-76 East, Medina County
The SR 57 entrance ramp to I-76 eastbound is closed as work continues on rehabilitating the interstate corridor. The detour route for eastbound motorists is SR 57 to I-76, west on I-76 to SR 3, south on SR 3 to I-76 east. The ramp is expected to reopen in late-July, 2012.

The exit ramp from I-76 eastbound to SR-57 is closed for repaving work. The detour route is I-76 east to State Route 94, north on SR-94 to I-76, west on I-76 to SR-57. The ramp is expected to reopen on July 10.
Interstate 71, Morrow County
I-71 southbound, from just south of the Morrow/Richland County line to SR 95, is reduced to two narrowed lanes of traffic for the reconstruction and widening project. Two lanes will be maintained at all times in the southbound direction.
Interstate 76, Medina County
I-76 eastbound, between SR 57 and the Summit County line, is reduced to one lane of traffic for a reconstruction project. Motorists are advised to use caution in this area and watch for slower moving traffic as it merges in to the open lane.
Interstate 90, Lorain County
I-90, over the Black River and Ford Road, is reduced to two narrowed 11-foot lane widths of traffic in each direction for bridge deck replacements. The restrictions will remain in place through November 2013.
State Route 53, Hardin County
SR 53 north of Kenton closed April 16 at three separate locations for culvert and bridge deck replacement. The locations of closure are south of TR 114, south of TR 60 and north of TR 50. The structures will be closed until mid-June. Traffic detoured onto SR 31, U.S. 68 and SR 81 back to SR 53.
Interstate 475, Lucas County
Expect lane restrictions in both directions on I-475, from I-75 to Monroe St. for reconstruction. Various ramps are closed within the project. Detours are posted.
State Route 2, Lake County
SR 2 active work zone is between Newell Creek/SR 306 and SR 44. All lanes are open; however, speeds will be reduced through the work zones.
Interstate 90, Ashtabula County
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on I-90; however, westbound traffic will be split. One lane of westbound traffic will crossover onto I-90 eastbound, while the second lane will remain on I-90 westbound. As a result, there is three lanes of traffic traveling on I-90 eastbound, (two eastbound and one westbound).
Interstate 90, Cuyahoga County
The I-90 Innerbelt Bridge through downtown Cleveland remains open; however, multiple ramps along the downtown corridor are closed or restricted as crews work to construct a new westbound I-90 Innerbelt Bridge. Visit www.Innerbelt.org for more information.
Interstate 90, Lake County
Traffic on I-90 between Paine Rd. and Painesville-Ravenna Rd. is shifted utilizing temporary crossovers. One lane of I-90 eastbound traffic will be using I-90 westbound.
Interstate 277, Summit County
I-277 westbound between I-77 and I-76 is closed for pavement repairs and resurfacing. The detour is I-77 north to I-76 west. I-277 westbound is expected to re-open in mid-July 2012.
U.S. Route 422, Trumbull County
The U.S. 422 Bridge over the Penn Central railroad just east of SR 169 is closed through early October for a bridge replacement. All detours are posted.
Interstate 70, Clark County
I-70 between SR 72 and U.S. 40 is undergoing a lane addition. Motorists will encounter construction zones in both directions on I-70. At least one lane of traffic will remain open to motorists in each direction.
Interstate 75, West Carrollton, Montgomery County
I-75 in the area of the East Central Ave. and Dixie Dr. Interchange is under renovation. Motorists will encounter a construction zone in both directions on I-75. Southbound motorists will encounter a crossover lane in the far left lane. Some ramps at this location are closed. Detour signs are posted.
Interstate 75, Dayton, Montgomery County
I-75 from Edwin C. Moses Blvd. to Fifth St. is under construction due to the modernization of the interstate through the city of Dayton. Two lanes of traffic will remain open to motorists in each direction. The ramps from U.S. 35 east and west to I-75 northbound are closed, and motorists will need to take U.S. 35 to I-75 southbound to Edwin C. Moses and use the specially designed U-turn lane to access I-75 northbound. This detour will add about 5 minutes. Motorists need to stay alert, as traffic patterns are currently not in their traditional places at this location.
State Route 7, Jefferson County
SR 7 is reduced to one lane between Brilliant and Rush Run for landslide repairs.

SR 7 is reduced to one lane in each direction for a resurfacing project from just north of SR 213 at Alikanna to just north of CR 56 near Costonia.
State Route 16, City of Newark, Licking County
Perform interchange/intersection improvements on SR 16 in the city of Newark, between Hudson Ave. and O’Bannon Avenue. One 11-foot lane in both east and westbound directions is open to traffic, using temporary concrete barriers and arrow boards.
U.S. Route 40, Guernsey County
Perform major rehabilitation, including total deck replacement, on the interchange bridge carrying U.S. 40 over Interstate 77. The U.S. 40 westbound & I-77 northbound to U.S. 40 westbound traffic is detoured via I-77 north, U.S. 22 west, and I-77 south, adding approximately five miles to a motorist’s commute. I-77 southbound to U.S. 40 eastbound traffic is detoured via I-77 south, SR 209 east, and I-77 north, adding approximately 10 miles to a motorist’s commute. U.S.40 eastbound traffic is unaffected, as eastbound U.S. 40 has one lane open to traffic.
Interstate 470, Belmont County
I-470 is reduced to one lane in each direction for resurfacing and rehabilitation work between I-70 and SR 7.
U.S. Route 23, Ross County
A resurfacing project is under way on U.S. 23 between Three Locks Road and the Scioto River Bridge near the U.S. 35 bypass at Chillicothe. Throughout construction, traffic will be maintained in one, 12-foot lane in each direction, and the project is anticipated to be completed by late November.
State Route 32, Adams County
A resurfacing project on SR 32 is under way, with operations just east of the Adams and Brown County line for bridge repair. Crews will be paving the route between the county line and SR 247 at Seaman, and throughout construction, traffic will be maintained in at least one lane in each direction. The project is anticipated to be completed by mid-to-late October.
State Route 32, Pike County
A resurfacing project is under way on SR 32, between SR 104 and SR 220, and traffic is being maintained in one lane in each direction throughout construction. The project is scheduled to be completed by late September.
U.S. Route 35, Jackson County
A resurfacing project on U.S. 35, between CR 41 (Dixon Run Road) and the Jackson-Gallia County line, is under way. Throughout construction traffic will be maintained in at least one lane in each direction. The project is scheduled to be completed by late November.
U.S. Route 50/Waldvogel Viaduct, Hamilton County
This is the Waldvogel Viaduct and Sixth Street Expressway improvement project. The Sixth Street Expressway lanes are reduced to one, 11-foot lane in each direction. One lane in each direction remains open on U.S. 50 from Mt. Hope Road to the Fifth Street/I-71/75 split. All ramps and bridges will remain open. Vehicles over 16 tons are restricted from using the existing viaduct.
U.S. Route 52, Brown County
U.S. 52 is reduced to one, 10-foot lane at TR 232 (Logan Gap Road), between Ripley and Aberdeen, for a slip repair project. Throughout construction, traffic is being maintained in one, 10-foot lane with the use of temporary signals.
U.S. Route 52, Brown County
A resurfacing project is under way on U.S. 52, from just west of TR 573 (Three Mile Creek Road) to just east of SR 41 at Aberdeen. Traffic will be maintained in one lane with the aid of flaggers when crews are at work. The project is anticipated to be completed by late November.
Interstate 71, Warren County
Bridge replacement of the Jeremiah Morrow bridge on I-71 just north of SR 123. Two lanes of traffic are open in each direction. While the permanent work zone restrictions remain in place, work is suspended over the holiday and there will be no additional lane closures.
Interstate 74, Hamilton County
Replace and widen I-74 structure over SR 128. While three lanes of traffic are open in each direction, two lanes of westbound I-74 are switched to the eastbound side of the work zone with one lane remaining on the westbound shoulder.
Interstate 275, Hamilton County
The project is a deck overlay and approach slab replacement on I-275 between Kellogg Avenue and Five Mile Road. Southbound I-275 has two lanes of traffic shifted to the inside lane and shoulder; northbound I-275 is reduced to one lane of traffic.
U.S. Route 33, Nelsonville Bypass, Hocking & Athens counties
There is over eight miles of major new construction on U.S. 33, between Haydenville and Doanville. Traffic will be restricted at eastern and western interchanges.
U.S. Route 50, Athens County
The passing lanes are closed on U.S. 50 at TR 38 (Bent Brook Road), for an intersection improvement project. The speed will be reduced to 45 mph through the construction zone. A 12 foot width restriction is also in place.
Interstate 77, Noble County
The passing lanes are closed on I-77 from CR 2 to SR 821 for a bridge deck replacement project. Traffic is maintained on one lane in each direction.
State Route 664, Hocking County
SR 664 is reduced to one lane from Berry Road to Old Man’s Cave for a realignment project. An 11- foot width restriction is also in place.
