‘Know Before You Go’ this July 4th Weekend
Record number of construction projects calls for preparedness
COLUMBUS (Thursday, July 2, 2015) – With a record 990 construction projects on Ohio’s state, U.S. and interstate routes this summer, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is urging motorists to “Know Before You Go” this July 4th weekend.
“While ODOT suspends work on major projects during the July 4th weekend, and others like it, lane restrictions and detours remain in place,” said ODOT Director Jerry Wray.
Motorists can obtain real-time construction information on ODOT’s OhGo.com web site.
Traffic fatalities are up 19 percent this year compared to last year. The leading causes of death include unbelted drivers and passengers, alcohol and speed. To help reverse this trend, ODOT will post Ohio traffic fatality statistics, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” messages during nights and weekends on freeway message signs beginning on the July 4th weekend.
With more cars on the road during the July 4th weekend, motorists can ease frustration by planning ahead, especially when driving through construction zones. Below are some of the state’s highway projects that could impact your travel:
