Upcoming Bridge Demolition Closes a portion of Cleveland Avenue
This Weekend Only
(Columbus OH) – Crews working on the I-71/670 Columbus Crossroads Project plan to demolish two bridges this weekend that carry traffic over Cleveland Avenue. These bridges symbolize an area that will be safer once the mega highway project is completed in 2014.
Right now, the two bridges over Cleveland Avenue carry 670 eastbound traffic to both I-71 north and south as well as 670 east towards the airport. The other bridge over Cleveland carries traffic from 71 north to 670 west. That’s a total of four movements on two different bridges.
This first ODOT construction project will improve those driving conditions by constructing three new bridges over Cleveland Avenue; one of them dedicated for 670 east traffic only. The result: reduced congestion and less weaving and merging.
Beginning Friday, December 9 Cleveland Avenue will close between I-670 and McCoy Street.
By 5 a.m. Monday, December 12, Cleveland Avenue will be open.
The detour if you are north of the bridges is:
Jack Gibbs Blvd, which will open tomorrow weather permitting, to St. Clair Ave to Spring St. to Cleveland Ave.
If south of the bridges, the detour is Long St. to Jack Gibbs Blvd. to Cleveland Ave.
Up-to-date traffic and construction information, 24-hours a day, along with information about I-70/I-71 Corridor can be found at www.odot71670.org.
All work is weather dependent, and can be cancelled without prior notification.
