U.S Route 24 is a major shopping route in Northwest
Ohio, with trucks representing on third of traffic. The
expansion of U.S. 24 into a four-lane divided highway will
alleviate safety concerns caused by the mixture of truck
traffic and residential travel along the current highway.
Construction of the new alignment, from Napoleon to
Toledo, has been underway since 2008. The U.S. Route
24, from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Toledo, is scheduled to
open to traffic in 2012.
Motorist can expect construction vehicles to be working
near the new alignment for the duration of the project.
The majority of the work will place off of the current
U.S. 24, with the exception of construction in Maumee,
where motorists can expect bidirectional traffic on the
current eastbound lanes of U.S. 24, from just west of
I-475 to Dutch Road.
