I-71 Lytle Tunnel

Bring tunnel and its systems into compliance with current fire codes and design standards. It includes lighting, mechanical and ventilation systems upgrade; concrete and tile repair; and cameras and fire detection system installation.
  • Began: June, 2015 – Estimated completion: fall 2017.
  • Construction Cost: $32 million.

Current Status

  • Lytle Street is closed in front of the Anna Louis Inn. There is no access to parking spaces on the south side of Fourth St. or the west side of Pike Street. One lane of Fourth Street is closed with traffic maintained to the Taft Museum. Ventilation and tile work is nearly complete.

 

  • The right lane of northbound I-71 will be closed beginning May 30 at 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly for bridge work. Traffic from the 2nd St. ramp to northbound I-71 will be shifted onto the right shoulder. This work is expected to be completed by June 5.
