Lytle Tunnel Work To
Require Overnight,
Weekend Closures
Lebanon (Friday, September
6, 2019) - The Interstate 71 Lytle Tunnel will be closed during the
overnight hours two weekends this month for regularly scheduled maintenance
operations.
Southbound
I-71 will be closed at Ohio Exit No. 2 and through the tunnel during the
overnight hours Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14. The closure will be
in effect from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. each night, and while the tunnel is closed, all
traffic will be diverted onto I-471 and detoured by way of westbound I-275 and
I-71/I-75; the alternate route for southbound motorists will be state Route 562
to I-75.
Closure of the southbound tunnel will also require ramp closures
of
U.S. 42/Eden Park Drive entrance ramp and the Third Street exit ramp to
southbound I-71. Motorists will be routed by way of the Liberty Street entrance
ramp to southbound I-471 and the Gilbert Avenue/Reading Road exit ramp to
access downtown.
Then, two weeks later, the
Lytle Tunnel will be closed in the northbound
direction. I-71 North will be closed at the I-71/75 split at Ohio Exit
No. 1, from 10 p.m. Friday, September 27, until 9 a.m. Saturday, September
28, and again from 10 p.m. Saturday, the 28th until 9 a.m.,
Sunday, September 29.
All
traffic will be diverted to northbound I-75 and detoured via eastbound S.R.
562 to I-71. There will be no access to the tunnel from eastbound
Fort Washington Way (I-71/U.S. 50; however, U.S. 50 will remain open. In
addition, the Fourth Street entrance ramp to northbound
I-71 in Covington, KY. will be closed, with traffic diverted via the
Twelfth Street entrance to I-71/75, and traffic by way of the Second
Street entrance ramp to northbound I-71 in Cincinnati may use the Fifth
Street entrance ramp.
Arrow
boards and/or signs will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming
work zone and restrictions. All work is contingent upon the weather.
