Cleveland Urban Core Projects - Innerbelt Plan

The Cleveland Innerbelt Modernization Plan is focused on improving safety, reducing congestion and traffic delays, and modernizing interstate travel along I-71, I-77 and I-90 through Downtown Cleveland. This investment by the State of Ohio will rehabilitate and reconstruct about five miles of interstate roadways - including construction of two, new bridges to carry I-90 traffic - and address operational, design, safety and access shortcomings that severely impact the ability of the Innerbelt Freeway system to meet the transportation needs of Northeast Ohio.

CCG6A - I-77 over I-490

All lanes of I-77 south - including the newly added third lane - over I-490 are open!

Through spring 2020, all lanes of I-77 northbound over I-490 will be shifted in order to accommodate bridge demolition and construction operations.

Overnight this winter, when weather permits, crews will temporarily close various lanes on I-77 and I-490 as well as ramps at the I-77/I-490 interchange in order to accomodate demolition operations. Please see the traffic impacts page for updated information about this work.

The entire project will widen and replace the I-77 bridge over I-490.
