SR 132/CHAPEL RD. TO BECOME A FOUR-WAY STOP
Clermont Co. (Wednesday, January 24, 2018) Ohio Department of Transportation
(ODOT) District 8 Deputy Director Tammy Campbell today announced the district
will convert the State Route 132 and Chapel Road intersection in
Clermont County from a two-way stop into a four-way one.
“We received several inquiries regarding the potential safety
hazard the intersection presented," said Campbell. “After our analysis we
determined we needed to move quickly to address the situation and moved forward
with the low cost four-way stop approach. We are also evaluating a proposed
roundabout as a possible more permanent fix.”
The conversion of the intersection to a four-way stop will occur
in early February, weather permitting.
Notification signs of the
change to the intersection have been installed.
In addition ODOT District 8 secured $1.1 million in safety funding
to pursue the possibility of constructing a roundabout to replace the four-way
stop intersection. The proposed roundabout project is currently in the planning
and environmental phase. Construction is tentatively scheduled for summer 2020.
ODOT District 8 will hold a public meeting in mid-summer to
provide information and receive comments involving various solutions including
potential roundabout alternatives at the intersection.
“Our crash analysis revealed this intersection had the highest
angle crash at a two-way stop of any in our southwest district,” said Campbell.
“The project continues our focused mission of improving safety on Ohio’s
transportation network.”
To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as
the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and
watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
