Five Large District School Travel Plans Across the State

After the large district pilot STP with Cincinnati Public Schools in 2012,pic four additional large districts across the state of Ohio have created district-wide STPs. Akron Public Schools, Columbus City Schools and Toledo Public Schools all completed STPs in early 2015. These three plans encompassed a combined 175 K-8 schools – 41 in Akron, 94 in Columbus and 40 in Toledo. The Cleveland Metropolitan School District completed an STP in 2016 for its 70 K-8 schools.

Columbus and Cleveland - Adding Health to STPs and Stepping It Up

picAll STPs completed in Ohio require a health component. A health representative must be on the SRTS team. However, many STPs, especially the large district ones, have been adding a more focused health component to their plans. Columbus City Schools and Cleveland Metropolitan School District incorporated a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) into their district-wide travel plans. The HIAs included health and socioeconomic disparities, and localized social determinants of health. Each also identified focus schools as priorities for SRTS countermeasures and pilots.
