Newark - Connecting Neighborhoods |
The Legend Elementary School and Liberty Middle School campus in Newark is separated from a neighborhood directly to the east by a waterway. This means students living in this neighborhood needed to walk almost two-thirds of a mile out of their way to get to the school. In 2012, ODOT awarded funds to Newark to build a pedestrian bridge to create a safe pedestrian walkway for students. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2016. |
Athens - Safety Complements Topography |
The Athens City Schools STP was completed in 2009. Since then, they have been awarded three SRTS grants for infrastructure projects, as well as non-infrastructure program funding. Located in southeast Ohio’s Appalachian region, Athens’ hilly terrain has resulted in several unique infrastructure projects. |
