Cincinnati - $4.9 Million NIJ Grant
pic

In 2014, the Cincinnati Public School District (CPS) received a $4.9 million grant from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to grow its district-wide SRTS program. School staff, parents and students were concerned about the high levels of violence and safety risks at school and in the community, as well as its negative impacts on learning. Unable to find violence prevention programs focused on the trips to and from school, CPS created its own, combining a Walking School Bus program with its Good Behavior Game. The program is underway and being analyzed. Study results will be available for local and national review.

Columbus - Valleyview Pathway

Before completing the Columbus City Schools district-wide travel plan, two Columbus schools created their own STP as part of a City of Columbus Mobility Plan. The Valleyview/Westmoor STP was completed in 2009. In 2010, ODOT awarded a SRTS grant for infrastructure improvements, including installing a multi-purpose pathway along Hague Avenue and Valleyview Drive. In addition to the SRTS funding, several other agencies provided funding to complete this complex project including: the City of Columbus, the Village of Valleyview and Franklin County. The pathway was completed in 2014.
