2010
October 15, 2010 - In the ODOT Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM), Parts 1 (General), 2 (Signs), 3 (Markings), 4 (Signals), 6 (Temporary Traffic Control) and 9 (Bicycle Facilitites) were revised this date. Also, two new Standard Construction Drawings (SCDs) were issued and eleven were revised; and three Plan Insert Sheets (PISs) were revised and three deleted.
The Quality Guidelines for Temporary Traffic Control Devices has been updated. Information about delineation of vehicles has been incorporated, and the title has been revised to Quality Standards for Traffic Control Devices and Acceptable Delineation Methods for Vehicles.
May 20, 2010 - Standard Construction Drawing (SCD) TC-81.21, Single Arm Overhead Signal Support was revised this date.

Also, one Standard Construction Drawing (SCD) was revised, TC-61.30; and four Plan Insert Sheets, 203010, 206410, 20700, and 209563.

Five Standard Construction Drawing (SCD) were revised, HL-20.13 and 20.24, and TC-71.10, 85.20 and 85.21. One new Plan Insert Sheets was issued, 208340 (Breakaway Transformer Base Connector Design) and one was revised 203010.
2009
December 23, 2009 - Revision 1 of the 2005 Edition of the OMUTCD was published today. The updated Manual and a separate Revision Set are available on the OMUTCD web page. This revision also results in a revision of the Temporary Traffic Control Manual (TTCM). An update of the TTCM is also available, as well as a Revision Sheet for existing 2005 TTCMs.
December 17, 2009 - We expect to publish Revision 1 of the current Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD) before the end of the year.
Revision 1 of the current Manual is primarily intended to incorporate into the OMUTCD the signing minimum retroreflectivity standards and guidelines published in Revision 2 of the national Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), published by FHWA in December 2007. However, several editorial corrections are also being incorporated into the OMUTCD with this revision, and Chapter 2F (Logos) is being revised to address anticipated changes in the Ohio Logo Program. A detailed Revision Log will be included in the Revision Set.
We will not be automatically sending copies of this revision to all holders of the Manual. It will initially just be published to the OMUTCD web page (see the link on the left of this page). We hope that most people will be able to download the revision set or the revised Manual from the website. The revision package will be about 60 pages. We expect to have CDs of the revised manual available, and paper copies of the Revision set (probably just in black and white) available upon request. However, they won't be available at the same time as the on-line version.
December 14, 2009 - The Plan Notes related to ARRA Signs that are posted on the ARRA web page, under Signing Programs on our OTE Miscellaneous Applications...Programs website have been updated this date.
October 16, 2009 - In the ODOT Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM), Parts 1 (General), 3 (Markings), 4 (Traffic Signals) and 11 (Highway Lighting) have been revised this date. Also, eight Standard Construction Drawing (SCD) have been revised: HL-10.13, 20.13, 20.14 and 30.11, and TC-21.20, 72.20, 82.10 and 85.10.
March 6, 2009 - As of this date, a revision of the Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM) involving Section 240-4 (Overhead Sign Supports) has been issued, Standard Construction Drawing (SCD) TC-85.20 has been revised, and a new SCD, TC-85.21, has been issued. These new and revised standards publications are available on-line through the links provided and the menu on the left of this page.
2008
July 18, 2008 - Revisions to Parts 2 (Signing), 3 (Markings), 4 (Traffic Signals), 6 (Temporary Traffic Control), 7 (School Area Traffic Control), and 12 (ITS) of the Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM) have been issued. Two new Plan Insert Sheets (PISs) have been issued (208350 and 208351) and two have been revised (209940 and 209960). Also, four Standard Construction Drawings (SCDs) have been rescinded (MT-95.80, 95.81 and 101.20 and TC-21.41).

December, 2005 - OMUTCD 2005 Edition
The 2005 Edition of the OMUTCD has been published, bringing the Ohio manual into conformance with the 2003 Edition of the national Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. There was a delay in delivery of the manuals, but initial distribution is expected to be complete by mid-January.
May 28, 2005 - MUTCD Interim Approvals
The 2003 Edition of the MUTCD includes a new provision in authorizing the Federal Highway Administration to issue "Interim Approvals." These approvals allow the "interim use, pending official rulemaking, of a new traffic control device, a revision to the application or manner of use of an existing traffic control device, or a provision not specifically described in the MUTCD." The Interim Approvals are based on the results of successful experimentation, studies, or research, and an intention to place the new or revised device into a future rulemaking process for MUTCD revisions. May 27, 2005 - OMUTCD Revision
The Federal Highway Administration issued the 2003 Edition of the national Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) in November, with an effective date of December 22, 2003. We are currently working on an update of the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD) to address the changes in the national manual.
Multi-jurisdictional advisory committees reviewed the changes in the national manual in the latter part of last year, and made recommendations regarding changes for the OMUTCD. The final draft of the 2005 revision of the OMUTCD is expected to be ready to send the printer by late Summer and is scheduled for publication in December 2005.

April 5, 2005 - OTE Reorganization
We're glad to welcome Marian Thompson, P.E. to the staff of the Office of Traffic Engineering. She has worked for the Texas DOT, the Arizona DOT, and most recently, ME Consultants in Columbus. Her experience, especially with Freeway Management Systems, will be a valuable asset to the Department and this Office.
As of this date, the Office of Traffic Engineering has been reorganized to create a new Freeway Operations Section, which Ms. Thompson will supervisor. Also, the Standards Section has been moved to be part of the Traffic Control Section, under Homer Suter, and the Work Zone and Safety / Operations Sections have been combined under Mohammad Khan as the Work Zones & Safety Analysis Section.
