9. Girls in Gear

Girls in Gear is an empowerment program using bicycling education to instill confidence, physical activity and nutrition habits in girls ages 9-14. In addition to bicycle safety and mechanics instruction, girls receive urban planning, public speaking and critical thinking experiences and instruction throughout the eight-week course. After piloting the program in Columbus, in 2014 ODOT developed a student workbook and educator guide to make Girls in Gear more widely available to communities across Ohio.
